Scott W. McMahon, MD

Scott W. McMahon, MD received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Creighton University in 1985. He completed his Medical Degree at Creighton University School of Medicine in 1989. He concluded a prestigious pediatric residency at Duke University Medical Center in 1992. He has maintained board certification since 1992 and practiced pediatrics in Roswell, New Mexico, for 28 years. He retired from active pediatric practice in 2020 but continues to serve as a pediatric hospitalist.

Dr. McMahon’s interest in Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS) began in 2009 by Divine calling. Three weeks later, he was approached indirectly by a local businessman whose daughter became ill from mold while attending school. This led him to the global expert on mold illnesses, Dr. Richie Shoemaker. Dr. McMahon visited Dr. Shoemaker’s practice to learn about the treatment for CIRS and saw the tremendous need for more physicians to treat CIRS. He immediately opened his practice, Whole World Health Care, in Roswell specifically to diagnose and treat patients with CIRS, starting with 15 patients from the local school. Board certifications typically do not cover individual illnesses, so the closest thing to such is Dr. Shoemaker’s CIRS Certification Program. Dr. McMahon is the first physician in the world to complete this rigorous testing, and he now brings his training under the tutelage of Dr. Shoemaker and his extensive expertise in treating CIRS to thousands of CIRS patients.

Dr. McMahon has spoken on CIRS and other topics at many medical meetings. He has written three books and co-authored consensus statements, one of which is the most comprehensive paper to date on CIRS and the health effects of exposure to the interior of water-damaged buildings. Dr. McMahon has authored or co-authored nine peer-reviewed and published scientific papers on CIRS. He has participated in “mold” cases for plaintiffs and the defense.

Dr. McMahon has been a devoted follower of Jesus Christ for nearly 30 years. He has also pastored a church and participated in 5 mission trips to Mexico and 10 to Africa. His wife of 13 years, Mary, is from Nigeria, and they parent 5 young children in addition to 3 grown adults from his previous marriage.
